In the past two years, we have seen too quickly the danger of letting our guard down. The whole world had to re-impose restrictions after another and another Covid wave.
Perhaps you are yet tired of keeping up with the precautions for the Covid-19 pandemic: isolation, children with remote classes, your own home-office, wearing a mask and avoiding large gatherings and public places. We have lost the feeling of “normality”. After two years, you may experience burnout and even Covid-19 Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
What are the signs of Covid burnout?
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as «demotivation» and exhaustion facing the demands of life during the Covid crisis, and warns that this fatigue could lead to a more prolonged and devastating pandemic. But this is real: Covid pandemic fatigue is completely natural.
The following are signs of fatigue, collectively and individually:
· Less compliance in the use of masks and social distancing
· Feeling anxious if someone passes by who is not wearing a mask
· Feeling tired even after getting enough sleep
· Lack of motivation
· Depression and isolation
· Inefficient at work
· Profound anxiety about the future
This may help:
1. Assess your mental health and ask for help if needed
2. Create a “Covid bubble” with like-minded family and friends
3. Carry out your activities safely
4. Be careful with addictive behaviors
5. Keep taking care of infections
Have you ever felt “burnedout” due to Covid-19?
Regardless of the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic, some of the infected people have subsequently suffered a state of exhaustion that can paralyze them: it is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
Some of those affected suffer symptoms such as fever, head and body aches, shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell, joint and muscle pain, as well as vision, memory and concentration disorders called “brain fog”. Those affected find it extremely difficult to think… everything is cloudy! This increases the tiredness and exhaustion typical of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Basic rehab
Important components of rehabilitation are counseling, breathing and relaxation techniques, stress management, gentle physical therapy, and exercise. In addition, it is important to get nutritional advice, help in the management of social and emotional problems and analysis of the job with the adaptation of measures for reintegration into the labor market.
